Max wind
How much wind is too much for my rig?
A side gust pushes on a big flat wall. This estimates the speed where that push starts to win, parked and at highway speed.
How the math works
- Tipping pressure =
weight × half the track width ÷ (side area × half the height). - Wind speed in mph =
√(pressure ÷ 0.003328). - Moving speed multiplies that by a factor for the rig type: Class A 0.55, Class B 0.70, Class C 0.60, travel trailer 0.45, fifth wheel 0.55. Track widths are 8, 6.5, 7.5, 8, and 8 feet.
- Results show as a band 3% either side. Real life adds suspension, road crown, and how fast your hands react. This is not a forecast. When in doubt, park it.
