Adding solar to a Fleetwood, step by step

Get the right owner's manual from Fleetwood, measure the roof, and size the system from your own loads. No made-up roof ratings.

A large Class A motorhome parked among tall pine trees with its awning out and solar panels on the roof.

Fleetwood owners ask the same question a dozen ways: how much solar will my Bounder take? Fleetwood doesn’t publish a solar-ready wattage for the roof, and we won’t invent one. What you can do is get the right manual, measure, and size from what you actually run.

Step 1: Get the manual for your exact coach

Fleetwood keeps owner’s manuals on its own site, sorted by year and model. The manuals hub links straight to those files for the Bounder, Discovery, Southwind, Flair, Pace Arrow, Frontier, Jamboree, Tioga, and more. Nothing is copied here. You download it from Fleetwood.

Step 2: Read the house electrical chapter

In the 2019 Bounder Class A gas manual (part L90-0300-68), that chapter covers shore power, the generator, the converter, and the two battery banks, chassis and house. It also says the coach electronics are voltage sensitive and that modifications can void the warranty. Read that line twice before you drill.

Step 3: Measure, then plan

Measure the usable length and width of the roof. Mark every vent, AC shroud, and antenna. Put those numbers into the solar planner with your appliances, and it lays panels out on your roof and suggests three build tiers with parts lists.

Vatrer 12V 300Ah lithium battery

The other half. Together they're a planning bundle, not a Fleetwood factory option.

Step 4: Decide who installs it

CCRV (Cross Country RV Solar) is the installer James lists on the partners page, at 989-464-3314. The old site used the email subject “Megawatt 10% Off Labor,” so ask about it when you call. There’s no star rating here because none was ever published.

Appliance manuals live with their makers

Your fridge, water heater, slides, and generator each have their own manual from Dometic, Norcold, Lippert, Suburban, or Cummins (Onan). The manuals hub links each maker’s official support page. Find the model number on the appliance’s data plate first and the search goes a lot faster.
